Zimbabwe struggled throughout their reply to Sri Lanka's 567, at no stage looking like avoiding the follow on, which was duly enforced.
The openers perished cheaply, and despite a slight recovery from Campbell and Pycroft, when key player Houghton fell for a duck to medium pacer Gurusinha, Zimbabwe found themselves deep in trouble at 94/5.
Andy Flower was joined by allrounder Gary Crocker in a partnership of 112 for the 6th wicket which at least gained them a batting point, but with both players falling in the 60's and the tail going cheaply, Zimbabwe finished on 247, still over 300 runs behind.
Anurasiri again impressed for Sri Lanka with 5-62, his ability to bowl long spells at low cost keeping him in the attack for long periods.
With the score at 227/8 after 100 overs, Zimbabwe gained 1 batting point, and Sri Lanka 3 bowling points.
