West Indies v England - 1992 World Test Championship - 1st Round - West Indies 2nd Innings

West Indies v England - 1992 World Test Championship - 1st Round - Georgetown, Guyana

The West Indies were immediately under pressure in their second innings, losing Haynes second ball for 2, then Simmons for 0, also second ball, as DeFreitas and Lewis ramped up the pressure.
West Indies captain Richie Richardson then followed, caught Hick bowled Reeve for 5, leaving the score 25/3, and no doubt sparking massive celebrations from the England camp, in particular the crack fueled bowler.
Lara was still there, and this time he blazed away from the start, putting the pressure quickly back on England.
He reached his half century at quicker than a run a ball in a stabilising 87 run partnership for the 4th wicket with Keith Arthurton.
Arthurton fell for 25, bowled by Phil Tufnell, leaving the score 112/4, and only Lara and Adams standing between the bowlers and the suspect West Indies lower order.
Enjoying the fast paced conditions, Lara and Adams scored quickly from the outset.
Lara reached his hundred at quicker than a run a ball, and after adding 108 for the 5th wicket with Adams, fell for a wonderful counterattacking 123, his second hundred of the match in a masterclass of batting.
The score was 220/5, and England had hopes of running through the tail quickly to cut the lead.
Adams slowed down in sight of a hundred on Test debut, but eventually brought up the milestone, an impressive innings under immense pressure.
Keeper David Williams failed again, but the lower order hung around long enough for the West Indies to total 314, setting England a 322 to win.
Adams remained unbeaten on 128* off 177 balls, having held the innings together after the departure of Lara.
Phil Tufnell gained some reward for some useful bowling spread across both innings to finish with 4 wickets, while Reeve and Pringle were again the pick of the seamers.
With the pitch now suffering from Uneven Bounce, a target of 322 seemed like a mountain for the England batsmen, especially after having the West Indies on the ropes at 25/3.
The quality and value of the hundreds of Lara and Adams could not be overstated, in an innings in which only two other players made double figures and the next highest score was 26.
