Australia began their innings well, Taylor 39 and Marsh 59 putting on 90 for the first wicket.
Boon continued the Australian dominance, going on to 175, adding 142 with Waugh, and 156 with Border..
Mark Waugh made 61, and Allan Border 102* before declaring at 510/5 late on Day 2, believing he had enough runs and wanting to keep the match moving.
The Indian bowlers all struggled, with Kapil Dev in particular having a quiet game after a good start to the season.
The score at 100 overs had been 278/3, giving Australia 2 points, and India 1, the Indians at least restricting the Australian run rate to under 3 per over throughout their long first innings.
