1992 World Test Championship - New Zealand v England - 2nd Round - Match Preview

1992 World Test Championship - New Zealand v England - 2nd Round - Auckland

New Zealand host England in an important 2nd Round clash, both teams needing a good result after first round losses.
England toured New Zealand in real life in 1992 for 3 Tests and won the series, but this one is hard to pick, both teams featuring a number of weakness, particularly in the bowling.
Both teams are unchanged from their first round matches.

Pitch: 113 - The pitch is quite damp on top suggesting heavy watering overnight, the faster bowlers should get some help until it dries out completely. Generally the wicket should play easily with just the possibility that any damage caused to the soft surface on day 1 may begin to cause problems late in the match.

Day 1 Conditions:
Pitch: 7B - Ball keeping low
Weather: 2 - Hot and Sunny

New Zealand lineup:
B.R.Hartland, J.G.Wright, A.H.Jones, M.D.Crowe (c), M.J.Greatbatch, S.A.Thomson, D.N.Patel, C.L.Cairns, I.D.S.Smith (wk), D.K.Morrison, C.S.Pringle

England lineup:
G.A.Gooch (c), A.J.Stewart, G.A.Hick, R.A.Smith, A.J.Lamb, D.A.Reeve, C.C.Lewis, R.C.Russell (wk), D.R.Pringle, P.A.J.DeFreitas, P.C.R.Tufnell

Toss: England

England won the toss, and with the wicket expected to deteriorate late in the match, elected to bat first.
