1992 World Test Championship - Australia v Zimbabwe - 1st Round - Match Summary

Australia v Zimbabwe - 1992  World Test Championship - 1st Round - Sydney Cricket Ground

Zimbabwe won the toss but little else went right for them on their debut as a Test nation.
After posting a sub par 233 on the first day, with Warne taking 5-77 on debut, the Zimbabweans conceded over 600 as the Australian batsmen, lead by opener Geoff Marsh with 227, piled on the runs.
Border made 99, and 4 other batsmen half centuries, as the limitations of the Zimbabwean attack were exposed on a pitch which helped the spinners throughout, but offered little else to batsmen or bowlers.
Pycroft resisted 3 hours for a half century in the 2nd innings, but Zimbabwe were dismissed for 214 as Warne, enjoying conditions ideal for spin, improved on his first innings effort with 6-65,to take 11-142 for the match.
Australia ran out winners by an innings and 172 runs, as Zimbabwe failed to put in a Test standard performance despite having the better conditions of the match.
