1992 World Test Championship - New Zealand v Pakistan - 1st Round - Wellington
Pakistan staged a remarkable comeback victory over New Zealand at Wellington, chasing down a world record 4th innings target of 492 and winning the match by 1 wicket thanks mainly to a massive partnership of 312 between Javed Miandad and Imran Khan.
As they had throughout much of the World Cup in 1992, the pair held the team together when batting was was under most pressure, before eventually launching into a thrilling counterattack.
The New Zealand team had dominated the early stages, posting 449 in the first innings, and dismissing Pakistan for 213 to claim a 236 run first innings lead thanks to Cairns 6-71.
With their seamers exhausted, New Zealand were unable to enforce the follow on.
As it was, 492 in 4 sessions was a very difficult equation, and required a world record performance, which seemed impossible when Pakistan had slumped to 66/4.
Despite not being able to claim 20 New Zealand wickets, and generally batting badly, Pakistan had somehow won the match.
Pakistan claimed 16 points for their victory, while the unlucky New Zealanders at least gained some reward with 11.
