Sri Lanka v England - 1992 World Test Championship - 5th Round - Sri Lanka 1st Innings

Sri Lanka v England - 1992 World Test Championship - 5th Round - Kandy

Sri Lanka started badly in their 1st Innings, and never really recovered, struggling their way to 226.
They lost the openers cheaply, but the loss of de Silva was the biggest blow, as Sri Lanka slipped to 71/3.
Gurusinha made 84, and Ranatunga 42, but no one else reached 20 in a disappointing effort, and Sri Lanka failed to recover.
The England seamers had been good early, and with spinner Tufnell contributing in a long spell, Sri Lanka were never let off the hook.
Sri Lanka now needed a good bowling effort to keep themselves in the game.
