Sri Lanka 'B' v Pakistan 'B' - 4th Unofficial One Day International - 1986/7 - Match Report

Sri Lanka 'B' v Pakistan 'B' - 4th Unofficial One Day International - Khetterama Stadium, Colombo - August 30th, 1986/7

Toss: Pakistan 'B'

Pitch: 2 (Good Batting Wicket)

Sri Lanka 'B' suffered a big loss when in form opener Kuruppu joined reserve opener Dhammika Ranatunga on the sidelines for the remainder of the 50 Over series.
Luckily for the home team, regular opener Mahanama recovered from his injury to take his place in the side, ensuring not too much disruption.
Sri Lanka 'B' also made 2 other changes, bringing in middle order batsman Sanjeeva Ranatunga for Hathurasinghe, and swapping seamer Ramanayake for the wicketless Wijegunawardena.
This forced a reshuffle, with allrounder Samarasekera promoted to opener, a role he would fill for the Sri Lankan ODI side later in his career.
Pakistan 'B' won the toss and elected to bat in excellent batting conditions.
Opener Shoaib Mohammad fell first ball to the consistent Vinothen John, but contrasting half centuries by Qasim Omar and Mansoor Akhtar laid a solid foundation for the later hitters.
Asif Mujtaba contributed a handy 29 to ensure momentum wasn't lost when the pair was parted, but with Ijaz Ahmed tied down and strangely subdued in a 41 ball unbeaten 18*, it was left to keeper Anil Dalpat to apply the finishing touches with 17* off 10 balls.
A total of 227/7 off 50 overs was the biggest of the series so far, leaving Pakistan 'B' confidently placed.
Asoka de Silva kept going through the slog overs to claim 4-45 off his 10 overs, but the batsmen found scoring fairly easy off all the bowlers.
With Mahanama scoring 17 off 19 balls, Sri Lanka 'B' were given some momentum at the start of their innings, but after Tillekeratne fell all momentum ceased and the home team collapsed in a heap against Pakistan 'B's trio of spinners to be all out for 128 off 49.1 overs.
Samarasekera topscored with a battling 50, but at no stage threatened to keep up with the asking rate as wickets tumbled around him.
The Pakistan 'B' spinners claimed combined match figures of 7-54 from 25.1 overs, numbers that sum up their dominance on a pitch which was expected to favour the batsmen.
Man of the Match was Mansoor Akhtar, his hard hitting 68 being scored at a rate far above that of his team mates as he continues his good limited overs form.
Pakistan 'B' now draw level in the series at 2-2, with one match to play.
