New Zealand and Zimbabwe played out a high scoring draw at Dunedin, with Zimbabwe claiming a first innings lead and avoiding defeat for the first time this season.
Rod Latham scored 123 on debut, adding 174 with Patel for the 6th wicket, to take New Zealand to a healthy first innings total.
Zimbabwe replied strongly, with hundreds to Campbell and Houghton, and contributions from most of the other batsmen taking them to a first innings lead of 48.
There was no time left to force a result, Wright making a hundred in the 2nd innings for New Zealand before a tea time declaration left Zimbabwe to bat out time.
