New Zealand began their innings in perfect batting conditions, but again lost Hartland early.
Useful contributions from Wright and Rutherford, along with half centuries to Jones 87 and Crowe 56, took NZ to 233/5.
Zimbabwe felt they were in the game at this point, but a 174 run partnership for the 6th wicket between Latham, who made 123 on debut, and Patel with a season high 66, took New Zealand to a strong first innings score.
Burmester and Traicos kept going with 4 wickets apiece, but the Zimbabwean attack again struggled for penetration, not helped by a very flat pitch.
With the score 303/5 at the 100 over mark, New Zealand had taken 3 bonus points, and Zimbabwe 2.
