Toss: Pakistan 'B'
Pitch: 4
Having conceded first innings totals of over 400 for the 5 Unofficial Tests replayed so far, and 1-0 down in the series Pakistan 'B' were desperate.
Gambling on the underperforming Zakir Khan and Nadeem Khan to shore up their bowling attack was a risky move given how both had performed in replay matches so far, but in truth the visitors were down in the series and had nothing to lose feeling they had already tried everything.
An injury to in form opener Aamer Sohail was a blow, but in Aamer Malik they felt they had an able replacement.
The struggling Atif Rauf was a surprise selection in the middle order, but by this stage the Pakistan 'B' selectors might have felt anything was worth a try.
Sri Lanka 'B' were forced into one change by injury, heavy scoring opener Kuruppu again missing out with injury, replaced by Dhammika Ranatunga.
The home team also swapped opening bowlers and wicket keepers, giving a game to seamer Ramanayake and keeper Wickremasinghe.
With the pitch Green for most of Day 1, and possibly helping the spinners late in the match, the Pakistan 'B' team elected to bowl first upon winning the toss, in the hope the Green pitch lasted into sessions 2 and 3 should they fail to knock over the home team early.
It was a gamble, though the visitors felt the pitch may not wear as much as expected and that batting last may not be as difficult as a first day greentop.
The gamble to send the home team in didn't immediately pay dividends for the visitors, with the Sri Lanka 'B' openers putting on an untroubled 69 for the first wicket.
Wickets fell steadily after however, with the run out of Madugalle for 3 proving crucial, and with no Sri Lanka 'B' batsman reaching 50, they posted a mediocre first innings total of only 261.
Naved Anjum lead the way for the visitors with 4-52, consistently finding Lift and Movement Off the Pitch in the helpful conditions.
He was well backed by Zakir Khan 2-57 and Nadeem Khan 2-56.
